Dr. Andy is here to help you create the smile you've always wanted! For kids and teens, certain orthodontic issues, like overbites or crowding, are best corrected early on.
Why should my child see an orthodontist?
Your child should see an orthodontist, because an orthodontist is formally trained and licensed in the diagnosis and treatment of malocclusions (improper bites). Orthodontists receive addtional formal training through a residency program that lasts an additional 2 to 3 years after dental school.
When should my child first see an orthodontist?
Deciding when your child is ready for orthodontic treatment is challenging and confusing. Around the age of 7, ask the family dentist if your child needs a referral. By age 14, most of your child's growth has already occurred. It is ideal to catch your child at times which growth is optimal.
Advantages of early treatment:
Create room for crowded teeth
Create facial symmetry
Reduce trauma to protruding front teeth
Preserve space for unerupted teeth
Reduce need for permanent tooth removal or jaw surgery to correct bite
