Both dentists and orthodontists work with mouths and teeth on a daily basis. They both attend many years of schooling and have a passion for oral health. So what exactly is the difference between a dentist and orthodontist?
Specialty Training: Difference Between a Dentist and Orthodontist
One thing to clear up right off the bat: Orthodontists are actually dentists who have received specialty orthodontic training. An orthodontist is always a dentist, but a dentist is not always an orthodontist. Approximately 10% of dentists are licensed orthodontists. See the chart below to learn more about the differences between a dentist and orthodontist.
